On March 8, 2026, the State Directorate of Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Republic of Kalmykia announced the planting of a lone oak tree near the southern city of Elista, the capital of the mysterious Kalmykia:

Friends, in the Khar-Buluk ravine we strengthen the natural and spiritual connection of times

For many years, a solitary poplar tree grew here , sung about by poets and revered by our people. People came to it with prayers, and animals and birds found shelter under its canopy. But time took its toll—the old poplar fell under the onslaught of the winds. However, this place, hallowed by the faith of many generations, should not remain empty. (more…)
