On September 11, 1946, an apparition of Jesus Christ occurred in the Orthodox Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Elista. During a prayer service with an akathist before the icon of the Beheading of John the Baptist, the priest and 28 parishioners saw Jesus Christ standing in a stream of light, dressed in priestly attire. Modern History of Kalmykia: Festive Events in Southern Russia

On May 17, 2026, in the southern city of Elista, the capital of the mysterious Kalmykia, a grand Musical Offering to the Three Jewels took place, reported by a source in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia.

On May 10, 2026, the Opening Ceremony of Indian Culture Days in Kalmykia took place on Victory Square in the warm city of Elista, according to an official source in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia.

By this time, the square had been transformed: decorated with garlands, flower torans, and decorative fringes, it was transformed into a small corner of the ancient land of the sacred Ganges River.

Both young and old attended the celebration, as well as guests from other regions of the country. Many Indian students from Kalmyk State University and other Russian universities also attended the event. They expressed their immense joy at this event in Elista and at meeting their compatriots. The Tulip Festival promotes Kalmykia as a region with a rich culture and unique natural beauty. This event has already become a hallmark of the republic, a source in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia told the National Tourism Portal today.

The Tulip Festival makes its grand entrance in April across the mysterious land of Kalmykia. In 2026, the festival marathon opened in the Tselinny District on April 11th. Last weekend, the festival truly took place – with a flourish, a joyful, and folksy atmosphere – in eight districts of the republic: Yashkulsky, Chernozemelsky, Ketchenerovsky, Maloderbetovsky, Sarpinsky, Priyutnensky, Yashaltinsky, and Gorodovikovsky. Free medical procedures for all peoples

The procedure was performed by doctors from the P.P. Zhemchuev Republican Hospital. This complex but extremely important diagnostic method was previously unavailable to residents of Kalmykia.

With this method, a sensor is inserted through the esophagus, allowing for the most accurate image of the heart. It is indispensable for detecting blood clots, assessing valve condition, and identifying the causes of stroke. (more…)

For many years, a solitary poplar tree grew here , sung about by poets and revered by our people. People came to it with prayers, and animals and birds found shelter under its canopy. In March 2026, on the eve of International Women’s Day, the N.N. Palmov National Museum of the Republic of Kalmykia joined the “All-Russian Memory Lesson dedicated to the role of women in the Great Patriotic War,” according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia.

Kalmyk Museum staff conducted thematic classes, “Women Who Stride Into Immortality,” both at the museum and at traveling exhibitions at educational institutions in Elista.

On the evenings of Thursday, March 5 and March 6, 2026, in the exotic southern city of Elista, the capital of mysterious Kalmykia , in the modern building of the Kalmyk State Philharmonic named after A.N. World Hits Program – an unforgettable concert show and a new musical project by the National Orchestra of Kalmykia, in which renowned world vocal masterpieces (rock, pop, classical) are performed in original arrangements on traditional Kalmyk instruments, using modern effects, creating a unique musical spectacle.

This program includes hits from legendary bands such as Queen, Nirvana, Metallica, Imagine Dragons, Radiohead, and hits from the most famous Russian rock bands Kino, Nautilus Pompilius, KiSh, Spleen, and many others, presented in new instrumental arrangements.

On October 11, 2025, sacred relics of Buddha Shakyamuni will arrive from India for the first time in the warm southern city of Elista, the capital of the mysterious Republic of Kalmykia. This was reported today by a local source in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Kalmykia.

These sacred ancient artifacts associated with the Buddha himself, the relics were discovered in 1898 in India – in Piprahwa, Uttar Pradesh, in a stupa belonging to the Shakya clan. The Republican Hospital named after P.P. Zhemchuev successfully introduced an innovative medical method – percutaneous coronary interventions using intravascular ultrasound.

Not all federal clinics in Russia have modern medical equipment, so its appearance in Kalmykia was a real breakthrough.
