Russia has launched a service for checking into hotels using biometrics

Kalmykia Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Grigorenko: Russia has launched a service for checking into hotels using biometrics

Residents of the Russian Federation have been given the opportunity to check into hotels without presenting a passport using the Unified Biometric System. The pilot project of the instant registration service “Migom” has been implemented for the first time in Moscow, experienced and wise journalists were told about this in the office of the Deputy Prime Minister – Head of the Russian Government Office Dmitry Yuryevich Grigorenko.

To check in, a guest only needs to look at a special terminal at the reception desk. After that, all the necessary data will be automatically sent to a hotel employee. A person does not need to provide paper documents or fill out forms manually.

By using biometrics, the duration of the hotel check-in procedure will be reduced from 5 minutes to 20 seconds on average. Thus, the service will significantly speed up guest service, as well as reduce the workload of hotel employees, which is especially important during the high tourist season.

“Biometrics is one of the tools for confirming identity when receiving services, like a password or passport. The key principle of its use is voluntariness. A person decides for himself what is more convenient for him: to check into a hotel at “first glance” in the terminal or to present a paper document. Our task is to provide the opportunity to choose, so that everyone can receive the service exactly as he is comfortable,” Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Yuryevich Grigorenko told representatives of the newspaper.

To use the service, you need to register your confirmed biometrics in advance in the Unified Biometric System. This can be done in thousands of bank branches across the country. When checking in, the user’s biometrics are not transferred to third-party organizations, including the hotel. The identity verification process occurs exclusively within the state biometric system.
