Monument to Zaya Pandita

Zaya Pandita or Namkhaijamts (1599–1662) was a Buddhist missionary priest and scholar of Oirat origin who is the most prominent Oirat Buddhist scholar.

Zaya Pandita was the fifth son of Babakhan, a minor Khoshut-Oirat prince. After Babakhan converted to Buddhism in the early 17th century, he, like many of the other Oirat princes, wished for one of his sons to enter the Buddhist clergy. In pursuit of his wish, Babakhan chose Zaya to become a bandi (“novice”) monk. In 1615, Zaya journeyed to Lhasa, Tibet where he would study and practice Buddhism, including study under the guidance of the 4th Panchen Lama.

Thousands of residents and guests of Blessed Kalmykia took part in this ritual that was held at the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.

A famous American physician and Buddhist monk Kerzin Barry arrived in Kalmykia

Today arrived in Elista famous American doctor, researcher, and a Buddhist monk Venerable Barry Kerzin. He will participate in the International Forum “Buddhism: Philosophy of non-violence and compassion”, which will begin in Kalmykia on September 22.

This is the second visit to Kalmykia Kerzina Barry, and at a press conference at the airport, he told reporters that he was glad to meet again with residents of the republic, which in its last visit produced a big impression on him.

The two-week program of stay in a Buddhist monk republic pretty intense. (more…)

Central khurul Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni International Forum “Buddhism: Philosophy of non-violence and compassion” will be held in Kalmykia. September 22 to October 2, the main temple of Kalmykia, the only Buddhist republic in Europe, will open its doors to members of the International Forum scale “Buddhism: Philosophy of non-violence and compassion,” which is an initiative of shadzhin Kalmykia Lama Telo Tulku Rinpoche.

Away from Buryatia and Tuva, Moscow and St. Petersburg, Mongolia, Thailand, India and the United States will gather for a round table to discuss the vital problems of modern society, to a thoughtful decision today which calls on Buddhist spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama. (more…)

Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni 15 lunar day of the holy month Uryus Sar became a real holiday in Kalmykia. In Elista, the celebration began at sunrise.

In the central khurul Republic of Kalmykia “Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” back in the early hours came laity to take a one-day vow of Mahayana. His doctor has given to Buddhist philosophy, Professor Venerable Geshe lharamba Tenzin Dugda.

He talked about how the great sage of the Shakya kind, Siddhartha Gautama, came into this world to tell people the way to liberation. Prince taught that all acquired their spiritual perfection inherent in every living being and every person has tremendous potential to improve. (more…)

June 15, 5:00 am Geshe lharamba Tenzin Dugda gives all-day vow of Mahayana, which includes a vow of non-alcoholic beverages. The action “take the vows of sobriety” is taking place in Kalmykia. Central khurul Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni Yesterday, 26 April, the central khurul “Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni” was the ceremony of consecration of the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. In addition, the monks consecrate all brought from the village Primanych sacred objects, which will be incorporated in the stupa of enlightenment. Among them are statue of Buddha Akshobhya. It is this deity advised the villagers to put in a niche stupa shadzhin Lama of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche.
