On the 26th of July the 1st President of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov paid an official visit to Bulgaria, where in Sofia he met with the Bulgarian Prime-Minister H.E. Boyko Borisov. During the meeting the issues of chess development as well as possibilities of investment projects realization in Bulgaria by international business circles were discussed.

In particular, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov informed the Bulgarian Prime-Minister on a project which is being undertaken by him alongside his European business partners, in respect of the investments into the economy of Bulgaria – tourism, gas station network modernization etc. Read the rest of this entry »

FIDE chief Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Ashmore Group set up a joint fund

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov The President of the World Chess Federation and ex-president of Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is reportedly going to set up a $10 billion investment fund with UK major Ashmore Group.

Ex-president of Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilymzhinov and Ashmore CEO Mark Coombs signed an agreement in London, reports Kommersant Daily. The joint fund would develop projects in Russia, CIS and East Asian countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Japan, focusing on energy, telecommunications, metals and food industries.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov The President of the World Chess Federation and ex-president of Russia’s Republic of Kalmykia, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has bought a 52.5% stake in Bulgaria’s largest fuel company Petrol Holding.

Swiss-based Credit Mediterranee owned by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov bought the 47.5% stake owned by Denis Ershov and the 5% stake owned by Alexander Melnik, Vedomosti Daily reports. Ilyumzhinov plans to buy 100% of Petrol and is currently engaged in negotiations with another shareholder Mitko Sabev, who holds a 47.5% stake.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov garners an awful lot of press for the president of the World Chess Federation. But he’s not exactly your average chess buff. The relics of Buddha Sakyamuni will come to Kalmykia

Golden Abode of Buddha November 18 in Elista, come holy relics from Sri Lanka. This spring, during a visit to Sri Lanka, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, he met with President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa.

During a friendly conversation the sides exchanged views on the development of economic and cultural ties, the implementation of bilateral exchanges, including through Buddhist organizations.
