A hotline for locust pest detection and control began operating in Kalmykia, reported KalmykiaNews.

Batu Khasikov, head of the Republic of Kalmykia, noted that agriculture in Kalmykia faces locust pests every year, but previously there was no centralized channel in the region where all information on locust control was collected.

“The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kalmykia took the initiative to launch a hotline on this issue. It is already working,” said Batu Khasikov, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia.

Employees of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kalmykia accept applications for on-site monitoring, as well as consultations – give recommendations on extermination measures and treatments.

The head of the Republic of Kalmykia emphasized: “Farmers also have a great responsibility. Based on the received recommendations, they need to treat their plots in good faith! For our part, we will partially reimburse the costs incurred in the form of subsidies”.

Working groups have already been formed, after receiving applications, they will travel to conduct a survey. All the information received will be sent to all the districts of the republic and the branch of Rosselkhozcenter in the Republic of Kalmykia.

The issues of joint surveys of adjacent territories and monitoring of specially protected areas are also considered.
