On 21th of May the sacred month Ur Sar has begun in the Republic of Kalmykia. During the whole month until 19th of June the believers in Kalmykia will honor the spiritual deeds of the buddist religion founder Budda Shakyamuni – birth, enlightment, and entering the Paranirvana. Despite of the fact thatthese events took placemore than 2600 years ago, the deeds of Budda and he himself are vivid reality for the buddist believers.

Yesterday, 26 April 2011, the High Lama of Kalmykia and President of the Association of Buddhists of Kalmykia Telo Tulku Rinpoche gave a lecture at the University of California at Santa Barbara on “Buddhism in Kalmykia in the post-Soviet era.”

Organizers of the event is the Foundation of the Dalai Lama XIV, and the Faculty of Religious Studies Program Buddhist University of California at Santa Barbara. (more…)

During his second visit to Kalmykia (Elista) in September 1992 His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama said, “The aim of my visit is to establish harmony: harmony with the environment, harmony among religions, harmony in the society and family and, – in the end, harmony of a man with his own self. I am stressing a great importance of this because everything depends on harmony in the world”.
