Russia does not give water for rice irrigation system of Kalmykia

Rice irrigation systems in the Oktyabrsky district near Volga river
The tense situation in recent years is due to insufficient volumes of supplied irrigation water to rice checks in Oktyabrsky district of Republic of Kalmykia.
So, in 2017, the volume of water supplied to rice checks amounted to 78.6 million m3, in 2018 – 73.5 million m3., in 2019 – 101.3 million m3.
Due to the lack of water in 2017-2019, the sown area of rice averaged 3620 ha, gross yield – 13.6 thousand tons with an average yield of 37.5 c/ha.
