Two years ago I’ve decided to set up my own studio with dance teachers from other countries and cities. Without thinking, I went to New York to find some. I visited several dozens of studios, met many different choreographers and realized that it was the first step of creating something big.

On February 1-2, the FIDE President visited Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. He participated in the congress of the Kyrgyzstan Chess Federation and had meetings with the country’s Government.

On the first day of his official visit President Ilyumzhinov met with Erlan Abdyldaev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Kyrgyzstan.

My name is Olga. My family is good and successful; my parents brought me up as a kind, helpful and clever girl. At school I always studied hard and my mother took me to different societies: to art school, to the center for talented children for learning English and computer classes, bell dances. Yesterday the 1st President of the Republic of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov visited Azerbaijan on a working visit, where in Baku he met with H.E. Ilham Aliyev, president of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the meeting, the issues of chess development, in particular the realisation of the Azerbaijan government programme for chess development in 2009-2014, were discussed.

Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov stated that this programme is a good model of the proper government attitude to chess development for other countries. (more…)

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov garners an awful lot of press for the president of the World Chess Federation. But he’s not exactly your average chess buff. From 1993 to 2010, he was president of the Russian republic of Kalmykia and became known for his efforts to transform the remote Buddhist region into an international chess mecca as well as for his frank comments about an encounter with aliens he claims to have had in 1997. Thousands of residents and guests of Blessed Kalmykia took part in this ritual that was held at the Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni.
